EA4: Centre
Callsigns beginning with EA4 were issued in Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha (exc. Albacete), Extremadura, in Spain. The same area appears in the series EB4, EC4, ED4, EE4, EF4, EG4, EH4, AM4, AN4, AO4.
Call area
Every EA4 station counts for CQ zone 14 and ITU zone 37.
How call areas work in Spain
Spain's call areas group the provinces: EA1 the northwest from Galicia to La Rioja, EA2 the Basque Country, Navarre and Aragón, EA3 Catalonia, EA4 the centre with Madrid and Extremadura, EA5 Valencia, Murcia and Albacete, EA7 Andalusia. The EB to EH series share the digits, and AM, AN and AO appear for special events.
EA6 (the Balearic Islands), EA8 (the Canary Islands) and EA9 (Ceuta and Melilla) are separate DXCC entities, which is why those digits have no page here. Mainland Spain is in CQ zone 14 and ITU zone 37.
Portable and moved stations
Operators away from home often add a suffix such as /P or the number of the area they are in, and many keep a EA4 call after moving. For awards the place of operation counts, so the prefix is a strong hint, not proof.
